Donzo - the Tour Guide

PicStory Belfast had the pleasure of meeting Paul, better known as Donzo, after yet another captivating city center history tour as a Guide for @dctoursbelfast . Donzo held the esteemed title of UK Tour Guide of the Year, a testament to his expertise and charm.
In addition to his role as a historian and local raconteur, Donzo's witty observations and droll commentary have earned him legendary status, particularly re the 6a Metro bus.
Among his previous roles, Donzo has served as a bouncer at Lavery's bar, a beloved Belfast institution, and as a university lecturer.
Describing himself in three words, he humorously identifies as a "da, Glen man" (a nod to Glentoran Football Club), and a diplomat—a fitting description for someone with his knack for storytelling.
Donzo's claim to fame? Apparently, he once startled Hillary Clinton simply by engaging her in conversation—a feat not many can boast!
While winning Tour Guide of the Year ranks high among his achievements, Donzo's greatest joys lie in fatherhood, cherishing his son Matti. However, emotionally overcoming premature baldness has proven to be a significant challenge for him.
In terms of guilty pleasures, Donzo indulges in cheesecake these days, though he remains tight-lipped about his past indulgences for legal reasons.
He felt most alive cheering his team the Glens to victory against local rivals Linfield on Boxing Day, a moment filled with exhilaration and pride.
Donzo's wisdom? "Never trust a…. Editor intervenes and paraphrases “Remain cautious of individuals from all political backgrounds, ensuring thorough scrutiny and consideration in all matters!”
Reflecting on Belfast's past, he finds it both grim and fascinating, viewing the present as a work in progress, and the future as promising yet fragile.
With a deep-rooted connection to East Belfast, Donzo continues to weave tales that captivate and inspire all who cross his path.
Keep up the great work Donzo and hopefully one of PicStory’s photos will grace the dust jacket of your soon to be started book (no pressure!)
