Community Focused Portrait Photography

Professional portraits with purpose — from free public sessions to private bookings that support our social mission.

At PicStory Belfast, we believe portraits have the power to tell stories, celebrate lives, and connect communities.

Our work centres around public portrait sessions at 2 Royal Avenue  (https://www.belfastcity.gov.uk/2RoyalAvenue) — a unique cultural and community space in the heart of Belfast. These open studio days are warm, welcoming, and completely free to attend. Anyone is welcome to step in front of the lens, whether you’re passing by, marking a personal milestone, or just curious.

But we also offer a range of commissioned portrait sessions that you can book in advance. These help sustain our work — more on that below.

Private & Commissioned Portrait Sessions

We offer a growing list of professional portrait options, while keeping things informal, relaxed, and affordable:

Book a Private Portrait at 2 Royal Avenue

Prefer a quieter session with more time and attention? You can *book a private portrait shoot on select Saturdays** at 2 Royal Avenue. Ideal if you're camera-shy, celebrating something personal, or just want a different pace than our open studio events.

Family Portraits

Capture a real and relaxed family moment. No stiff poses, no pressure — just honest, joyful photography.

Pregnancy Portraits

Mark this powerful moment with a calm, creative portrait that celebrates you and the journey ahead. We take a gentle, artistic approach that suits all parents.

Holy Communions

We offer simple, elegant portraits to mark a child’s First Holy Communion — timeless images your family can cherish.

Headshots

Need a new headshot for work, your creative practice, or social media? We offer **natural, unfussy portraits** that show the real you, at your best.

Mobile Studio for Community Projects

PicStory Belfast also brings our pop-up portrait studio to community centres and local events across the city. From youth clubs to heritage celebrations, we can work with people of all ages and backgrounds to create portraits that become part of local exhibitions, storytelling projects, and printed keepsakes.

We’re especially keen to collaborate with groups that serve underrepresented communities, intergenerational groups, or anyone working on creative or community development.

If you’re running a community project, event**, or programme, we’d love to hear from you.

How Paid Portraits Help Support the Project

We are a Community Interest Company (CIC) — that means every penny earned from commissioned portraits goes straight back into the project.

Your paid session helps us:

* Replace and maintain essential equipment like backdrops, lighting, and cameras

* Print portraits for exhibitions and participants

* Train volunteers and expand to new community venues

* Keep our free public portrait sessions going strong

By booking a session, you’re not just getting a portrait — you’re helping sustain a creative, inclusive project that celebrates the people of Belfast.
